An Opium Speed Pedelec in the mud

Owning a speed pedelec means experiencing the thrill of high-speed cycling and the freedom of long-range rides. To keep your bike performing at its best — and to ensure your safety — regular maintenance is essential. Here are a few key tips to keep your pedelec in peak condition:

 Keep Your Tires in Check
High speeds put extra stress on your tires. Regularly inspect them for wear and ensure they’re inflated to the recommended pressure. Properly inflated tires improve handling, efficiency, and reduce the risk of flats.

Care for Your Battery
The battery is the heart of your speed pedelec. Charge it regularly, avoid extreme temperatures, and store the bike in a dry place when not in use. If you ride daily, consider a partial charge (between 20–80%) to prolong battery life.

 Brake Maintenance
At 45 km/h, reliable brakes are non-negotiable. Check brake pads for wear and replace them when they thin out. Also, bleed hydraulic brakes annually to maintain optimal stopping power.

Clean the Drivetrain
Dust, dirt, and debris can wear down your belt and gears. Clean the drivetrain regularly and to keep riding smooth and components lasting longer.

Check Bolts and Fasteners
Speed pedelecs handle higher forces than regular bikes. Periodically inspect bolts, especially on the cockpit, wheels, and suspension, to ensure nothing has loosened over time.

Schedule Professional Servicing
Even with diligent care, a yearly check-up at a certified service center is invaluable. Technicians can update software, fine-tune the motor, and catch potential issues early.

By staying on top of maintenance, you’ll not only enhance your bike’s performance but also extend its lifespan — ensuring every ride is as smooth, safe, and exhilarating as the first.
