When comfort meets speed.

The Model L is the Opium you step through. A low frame, an upright posture, and a foot on the ground at every light without thinking about it. Nothing about getting on it asks for a decision.
Underneath the comfort is the same engineering as every Opium: a fully sealed nine-speed Pinion gearbox, a 1000 W rear-hub motor with assistance to 45 km/h, and a 1,400 or 1,600 Wh battery in the frame for up to 230 km.
Comfortable. Capable. Uncomplicated.

The Model L comes with a 1,400 Wh battery built into the frame, or 1,600 Wh as an option, for up to 230 km of assistance at 45 km/h. Both charge overnight from a domestic socket.
230 km is a week of 20 km rides in each direction, or one long day out of the city and back, without plugging in between. It is enough range that you stop counting it, which is the point of carrying it.
The battery sits flush inside the down tube, keeping the silhouette clean and the centre of gravity low for stable, confident handling.

The Model L's rear-hub motor gives quiet, reliable power from the first pedal stroke, with assistance to 45 km/h. Easing into a ride or holding a pace on an open road, the delivery is smooth and the same every time.
On a step-through bike the motor does more than add speed. It makes a fully loaded bike easy to move off from a standstill, which is what a route with traffic lights and stop signs actually demands, and it takes the effort out of the small hill that would otherwise decide whether you ride or drive.
Sealed in the rear hub, it needs nothing from you: no exposed drive, no adjustment, no seasonal attention.

The Pinion C1.9 sits at the centre of the frame: nine mechanical speeds with a 568% range, fully sealed, driving the rear wheel through a Gates carbon belt. No chain, no cassette, no derailleur.
A bike that is parked outside and ridden in every season needs a drivetrain that does not mind either. Nothing here is exposed to rain, grit or road salt, so nothing wears at the rate a chain would, and the belt needs neither lubrication nor re-tensioning.
Service attention comes round about every 10,000 km. Over a year of riding, that is a drivetrain you use rather than one you look after.

FIT sits between the battery and the motor and decides, several times a second, how much of one to spend on the other. It reads cadence, gradient and load, and adjusts the assistance as you ride.
Climbing, it gives you more. Holding a steady pace on the flat, it gives you less and keeps the charge for later. That is where the range comes from: the same battery goes further when the assistance is matched to what the road actually asks for.
There is nothing to set up. FIT is working from the first pedal stroke, and the only sign of it is how rarely you think about the charger.

A rigid fork for direct handling, or an optional suspension fork for comfort on rough surfaces. Both sit on the same stable front geometry, and both keep the Model L composed at 45 km/h.
Which one is right depends on the route rather than the rider. Tram tracks and cobbles reward the suspension; a smooth ride to work does not need it.
Balanced geometry and a low centre of gravity do the rest — less fatigue over distance, and a bike that stays predictable fully loaded.

A fully adjustable cockpit, a Supernova headlight, hydraulic disc brakes with 203 mm rotors, a rearview mirror and the FIT controls. All built in, all standard.
Integrated rather than added is the point. A light wired into the bike is on when the bike is on. A mirror fitted at assembly sits where it can be used. The brakes give the same lever pressure the same result wet or dry, which at 45 km/h is the difference that counts.
Nothing here is on an options list, and nothing here can be left at home.

No bolt-on racks, no rattling fenders. The mudguard system is one integrated structure: it keeps the spray off, hides the light cabling, and carries Ortlieb's QL3 interface for the panniers.
On a step-through bike this is the combination that does the work. Loading a low frame is easier to begin with, the bags go on and come off without tools, and the whole thing stays low enough that the bike is no harder to move off from a standstill full than it is empty.
Low-profile, and ready for the daily haul.
Drivetrain
Pinion C1.9 · 9-speed mechanical
From €8,490
Nine sealed speeds with a 568% range, on a Gates carbon belt. 1,400 or 1,600 Wh, for up to 230 km.
ConfigurePinion Smart.Shift · 12-speed electronic
From €9,490
The same step-through frame and motor, with twelve electronic speeds that change while you are stopped. 1,600 Wh as standard for up to 230 km.
See the Smart.ShiftA speed pedelec assists to 45 km/h, where a standard e-bike stops assisting at 25 km/h. In most of Europe it is classed as a light moped: an insurance plate, a helmet, and in some countries a moped licence category. The Model L is the one you step through rather than climb over, which is what makes it the one people ride most often.
